Leon van den Eijkel Listening to the Future Paintings and Sculpture

April  -  May  2016

Listening to the Future includes new paintings on

canvas and on paper, and sculptural pieces.

Leon's works display an intriguing dialogue between modernist

aesthetics and a concern for the contemporary Pacific context.

Autobiographical elements are also part of the Tivoli project.

Listening to the Future employs colour to spectacular effect and

has an engaging exuberance.

In the artist's words, 'Art should inspire peoples and cultures to

grow, transform and look to the Future.'

Leon studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague and

moved to New Zealand in 1986. He has exhibited widely in

Europe, the USA and New Zealand, with works in the Stedelijk

Museum, Amsterdam, the Museum of Modern Art, New York,

and Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington.

He has a major installation at The Farm (sculpture park), Helensville.

Leon exhibited The Family on Tivoli's Art Wall in 2010.

A resident of Waiheke for some years, Leon now lives in Henderson.
