Back on Waiheke from the installation of Ship of
Fools (Infrastructure #6) selected for Sculpture
by the Sea, Perth, Oliver's intriguing group of
works at Tivoli present contradictions and
conundrums. Of these works, he says 'Materiality,
concept, form and structure jostle for position.'
The sculptures, challenging viewers to deconstruct
their layers of meaning, use diverse media,
including cast glass, bronze, white oak, native
timbers and wine barrel staves.
Oliver's work has been widely exhibited. Last year
he was Wallace Foundation award-winner and had
work selected for Sydney's Sculpture by the Sea.
He also exhibited in Sculpt Oneroa, SITG
Auckland Botanic Gardens and worked as contract
sculptor (Queensland) for the movie Thor.
