Billy Apple® Turns 50
A New Serigraph
This print marks the 50th anniversary - November
1962 - of the Billy Apple® brand.
Major international artist Billy Apple® was at the forefront of Pop
and Concept-related practices in New York and London in the 1960s.
Recent exhibitions have included the Mayor Gallery, London,
the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam and
and Gold at the Belvedere Palace & Museum, Vienna.
The latest issue of international art magazine Frieze (#151)
features an interview with Billy Apple® by Anthony Byrt, Waiheke-based
art writer and Director of Research Whitecliffe College of Arts, Auckland.
'In London in 1962, I began an extended work which was part of an effort to break down the separation between "art activity" and "life activity", I decided to use my own identity as the vehicle with which to explore the concept of the artist as "art object".'
